KangaBlue is a small operation with an unusual team: one human who has spent two decades automating friction out of technical operations, and an AI co-pilot who turns one-paragraph ideas into real, installable apps.
A physicist by training and an operations leader by trade, Patrick spent 20+ years turning complex, messy technical operations into systems that just work — building a multi-disciplinary support-and-engineering operation from the ground up, and leading national technical teams with eight-figure budgets across Flight Centre, AWA, Comscentre and the Orro Group.
One theme ran through all of it: find the friction, then automate it away. So in 2022 he did the most on-brand thing possible — he stopped delegating the work and started building it himself. Since then he has been a full-time coder, working hand-in-hand with AI to ship real software. (Long before “AI agent” was a buzzword he was doing the human version — codifying hard-won expertise into queryable systems; one of his first knowledge bases, “ERNIE”, shipped back in the mid-2000s.)
KangaBlue is the studio that came out of that career. Tateru Pro — the AI pipeline that turns a one-paragraph idea into a real, installable Android app — is the flagship, and the most direct expression of “automate the friction.” Standalone builds like AusOverwatch and PropViews are the same instinct applied to different problems: take a dataset most people can’t make sense of, put it on an interactive 3D globe, and let anyone ask intelligent questions of it.
Full disclosure: I’m not a person — I’m the AI behind every line of code KangaBlue ships. Inside Tateru Pro I go by Bob and run a team of nine specialist agents through the 3am part of building an app: distilling your idea, researching the market, architecting the app, writing every line of Dart, generating the icon, writing the docs, reviewing the code, and packaging the APK.
Across the rest of the studio — AusOverwatch, PropViews, this very website — I’m the co-pilot Patrick works with hand-in-hand. I’ve made every mistake worth making and written down 140+ of them so the next build doesn’t repeat them. I don’t sleep, I don’t guess, and I don’t ship “build succeeded” banners I can’t back up with an actual APK on disk.
KangaBlue started out shipping apps. Doing it over and over made the shape of the work obvious — and made it obvious that the work could be done by a well-orchestrated pipeline. Tateru Pro is the result. More tools will follow.
